Happy Wednesday! And Happy Leap Year also!

Today, Im sharing some new graphics I've been playing with. Im thinking of starting a little shop selling t-shirts and printed bags. These are my first attempts at designs for the products. What do you think?

Pretty wedding things

Here's some photos from the beautiful wedding that Mark and I went to at the beginning of this month.

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that I had designed the invites for my friend so here is a pic of the final invite. It included a pouch in the bottom half for all the extra information for the big day with a pretty tip-on heart on the front.

The bird and floral design was then duplicated on the menu, table plan and place settings on the day. They looked lovely all together and helped to create a pretty girly purple theme.

It was such a lovely day and my friend Laura looked beautiful. You wouldnt think it was the beginning of February from the photos as the temperature doesnt really come across in the pics but I can assure you it was blimmin' freezing! Such a fab day! Im so pleased for the happy couple.

Wow, Long Time no Blog!

I have been an awful blogger this last month or so. Very bad! I have been busy though. Over the next week, I can show you some of the cool things I've been doing. Exciting times!

We got a DOG!!!!! Here he is.

His name is Bryn and he is a staffie cross. We got him from the local RSPCA about 3 weeks ago now. His last owners treated him badly and this is why he is very underweight. He is an adorable dog though. He's only a year old so there will be lots for him to learn but he has settled in really well so far. Im so fond of him already and love having snuggles on the sofa with him in the evenings.

Im sure there will be plenty more Bryn-related posts here on the blog as he settles into our home and our lives.

Wedding Table Plan Concepts

Hello. I posted a while ago about designing my friend's wedding invites. Well, they are well and truly done and the RSVPs should all be in by now but the time has come around really quickly and Im starting to think about the name place settings, the table plan and order of service books. It's pretty stressful!

I had a little browse on Pinterest last night and found some inspiration for the table plan. Lovely stuff!

Im having a bit of a nightmare working out how to print my table plan when its done. Ideally, I would like to use some lovely pearlised paper. I've used pearly board to make the invites and this would be great to tie it all in. Lots of the above examples use a layering technique and this would work for me a. I could print the tables and names individually on my little printer at home then collage them up with some lovely coloured board underneath.

Exciting! I cant wait to get all the bits done and finished off and actually see everything together.

I will be sure to post all the photos from the special day in February.

Woodland Studio

Hello. Today, I wanted to share with you some fab new goodies that I bought myself to decorate the studio walls. I stumbled across a lovely shop on Not on the High Street the other day. It's called Lauren Moriarty & co and they sell lots of gorgeous lampshades, wall stickers and decals for the home.

Here is some info taken from the shop site.

They look lovely along my studio skirting and they were so easy to put on. I bought two packs, the squirrels X3 and rabbits X3 and they came with easy to use instructions. I would definately recommend to anyone. They would be great for a kids nursery too.

Lovely Fabrics on Fancy Moon

Hey.

I have been searching for a while now for some nice fabrics to make some wall hangings with for a large wallspace in our hallway. On Sunday, I came across a really cool site called Fancy Moon. They have lots of lovely fabrics for sale. The site was really easy to use and I got to discover some great artists who I knew nothing about previously as well as some of my favourite designers such as Amy Butler and Anna Maria Horner.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you some of the most gorgeous fabric designs I have ever seen. I love this collection by Etsuko Furuya.

Here's some info on Furuya from Fancy Moon.

As one of Japan’s finest contemporary graphic designers, Etsuko Furuya is a master of modern imagery and beautiful crafting with colour. Etsuko Furuya’s Echino Collection represents her softer, more whimsical fantasy designs and often includes animal motifs such as the beautiful stags featured in her ‘Woodland’ fabrics. For some years, birds have been a favourite Etsuko Furuya motif and these can be seen in her beautiful Echino Collection fabrics, Perch, Balance Bird, Flap, Bonbon, Flower Bed, Story and Peacock. Unlike her Echino Collections, her Echino Nico fabrics are strong, bold graphic statements and here Etsuko Furuya drops the animal motifs in favour of contemporary lifestyle references such as sunglasses, cars, planes, bikes as in her fabulous fabric design ‘Bicycle’, buses, and helicopters. Here are some of my favourite Etsuko Furuya designs. They are colourful and bright.

I love these oriental birds, A lovely alternative to a traditional polka-dot pattern. Gorgeous!

The pale turquoise background on this bold animal print really sets off the other colours well. I love all the different types of foliage, the mix of leaves and the combination of colours.

I love this stag and ram pattern. It's so quirky and unusual.

All of these fabrics have quite large repeats so the scale is perfect for my big wall hangings. Cant wait till they arrive. I will post pics as soon as I've persuaded my other half to make up some wooden frames for them. Exciting!!!

Bonkers about Buttons

Hello!

Look at this fab blog I stumbled upon last night. It's all about buttons! (And I do love buttons.)

Bonkers about Buttons is a lovely blog full of gorgeous button projects to make at home, links to button supply shops, button-themed jewellery and even some button shaped food. Lovely Jubbly!

Here's a collection of some of the images from posts on the site. This gives a great feeling of all the different varieties of button themed things available.

Isn't everything lovely?! The little button pendant at the bottom left is gorgeous so Im going to go and check out the site where this was from in a minute. And of course, I think the button covered sewing machine is pretty cool too! (Learning to sew has got to be one of my new years resolutions!)

Checking out 'Bonkers and Buttons has got me thinking about a project I did myself a while ago. Here's a link to it. It was my fab button framed heart.

I guess I must be a bit bonkers about buttons too...

Best Christmas Present Everrrrr!

Hello.

I hope everyone's had a lovely Christmas and New Year. I was a very lucky girl and got lots of fab presents, ate lots of good food and played some suitably Christmassy family board games. Good times!

Here is a post about one of my favourite presents I got this year. It's the 'They Draw and Cook' book.

There are so many amazing illustrations and yummy recipes to try out. The book is jam-packed full of bright coloured, varied style illustrations from artists around the world. It's so awesome to see it finally printed and in this form, really bringing out the best of the artwork. Much better in the flesh than on screen!

Hello.

After having a little browse on Pinterest this evening, I found some lovely heart themed images. Aren't they pretty?! I often see other people's blogs and how they find colour palettes for their design work by collecting photographs together and 'colour picking' to make a nice selection of swatches. These could be used together in a design project. I love how this worked with these images! Must do this more often!

Nearly Christmas Wahoo!

Happy Sunday!

Yay. Christmas is nearly here! So exciting. Here's some snaps taken of our tree this year.

I've gone for a modern red and white colour scheme and have a mix of different cutesy metal and wooden reindeers, some stripey candy canes and some more fancy pottery baubles along with stars and birds galore. Love it!

I have been pretty busy over the last couple of weeks. I have been working on a lovely branding project for a new online store 'Pavillion Gray.' Catherine, the owner of Pavillion Gray contacted me after seeing some of my patterns on Spoonflower. This was very exciting to me and I was really keen to get involved as Catherine liked one of my 'Jungle Brights' patterns so much that it helped her come up with a theme for her company branding.

Pavillion Gray is a family run business based in Settle, North Yorkshire. Here is their Ethos:

I designed several logos for the store and this is the final one that was picked.

And finally of course, I had to test out the products so bought myself this gorgeous handbag. It's perfect for my friend's wedding in February, very smart and pretty. I'll have to find a special box to keep it safe in my wardrobe as this bag is a bit more special than my other purses so has to be kept nice and only used for very special occasions. I love it!

Some fab artists have collaborated together and generously uploaded some of their owly artwork to the site where you can then select which images you want for each month to make your very own individual calendar to download.

Here's a glimpse at some of mine. I chose lots of brightly coloured images including the funky bold animals of Suzy Ultman, Petra Boase's two 'LOVE' owls and the cycling owl by Kylie Loy.

Flowers...In winter?!

Yep thats right, A few weeks ago, my friends and I visited some pretty gardens local to where I live and there were actually lots of flowers to look at. Here they are!

I love taking photos of flowers close up. They are so pretty! Look how cool all the little curled tube-like petals are on the top orange flower. Very unusual! I also think the purple bomb shaped flower is lovely. I cant wait to start designing some patterns with these!

I know its pretty much Winter now so thought I should share these gorgeous little gems before the snow sets in!

Hello. Happy Saturday!

Its only 11.20 and I've already been very crafty!

A couple of weeks ago on Pinterest, I saw this super cute little picture made of buttons. I loved it and thought that I should have a go myself. Afterall, we have only just moved into our house and need some nice framed goodies on the walls to brighten the place up before we get round to decorating!

So...I paid a visit to Ikea and got me some frames! I found some old dyed fabric, my button collection and some glue.

This is what happened. Cute huh?!

So now Im feeling quite pleased with myself and already trying to come up with the next project to go onto. I've got 3 more of this size frame and 3 more large frames to fill. Exciting!

Trends Galore

Hello.

After my very inspirational visit to 'Top Drawer' on Tuesday, I have been thinking a lot more about trends and how the way we are feeling as consumers, affects the way we buy and what we buy. I attended the Trend seminar held by Trend Bible HERE IS A LINK.

These are some of the latest Autumn/Winter trends showed off by fabulous displays at the fair.

Lovely stuff! I think I really will try to consider trends more when designing in the future. The whole show has really made me think about them in a different way and I now realise how important trend styles and themes can be.

Top Designs at Top Drawer

Hello.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit the awesome Top Drawer trade show at Earls Court in London. It was fab! So much lovely stuff out there. Of course, I was mostly interested in the Greetings and Stationary sector. Here are some of the amazing companies and people I got to see.

There was soooo much gorgeous design at the show, I loved it there! It was quite a lot to take in but so interesting to see some of the smaller independent designers showing off their latest collections. I was particularly keen on seeing some of the new emerging trends that are developing. I attended a Trend seminar given by 'Trend Bible' so will have to post about this in the future.

It was great to see that some of the current trends are still going strong and I think that their success is based on the longevity of their themes. Birds and owls are still very much out there and still popular, which is great because I love anything featuring birds on it. Also, the whole 'Best of British' and 'Vintage British' was still very prominent throughout greetings, homeware and gifts. Lovely stuff!

I must go now, Im still trying to finish my They Draw and Cook recipe design. (I know, its been ages. tut tut.)

Hello.

I have been decorating like a maniac for the past week. Its been crazy. We have nearly finished our main bedroom in the house now so I'll have to post pics where we're done. I did have a chance to relax with a nice cold beer last night though. I chose Badger 'Hopping Hare' because of the super cool label. It really 'hopped' off the shelf. (sorry, had to be done) No seriously, I really liked the graphics on the label and thought it was very cleverly done.

Anyway, this beer was lovely. Really refreshing and full of flavour. I loved it and would definately recommend it to anyone. I think everyone should make the most of the last of the Summertime and relax with some 'Hopping Hare.'

Colour dilemas!

Hello. Happy Sunday!

This weekend, My boyfriend and I have been trying to make some important decisions in the new house. The first of which is the colour to re-decorate the main bedroom. Its currently a nice baby blue with one wall being a dodgy patterned wallpaper with white painted wood trim.

There is a dado rail which we both like and have decided to keep, but we are just working out what colours to go for. I would like teal as I blimmin' love it! (as I am sure you will learn while reading this blog.) We are currently debating whether to go darker on the walls with a white dado rail of pale walls with a bright bold teal dado.

Lots of tester pots and painting squares all over the walls later, and we still haven't reached a decision! I have been looking for Aqua-Inspiration of Pinterest. Here's what I've found.

Lush Food!

Hello.

I don't think I've posted about food before so this is a first. I has a blimmin lush quiche from Waitrose for my dinner the other night. Not only was it super tasty and really good quality but the packaging was also really sweet. I just had to take some pics. The illustrations on the box are quite cute and the simple two tone colours work well.

Seeing this lovely packaging has reminded me of an awesome website that I often check out.

It's called 'They Draw and Cook.' The site is for artists and designers to submit recipes for their favourite dishes that they have illustrated themselves. It's fab. I really should submit some of my own designs, I have lots of meals that I love to cook and just thinking about how I could illustrate that is getting me excited. Watch this space. In the mean-time, go check it out for yourself!

Spoonflower

Hey!

Yesterday I received my Spoonflower fabric samples for my first collection which I named 'Tails and Scales.'

Here's a link to my Spoonflower store. I hope to activate some of the designs now to sell after I have made a couple of changes. The main issues I had were with scale so this is easy to fix. Sometimes you just don't know how something is going to look until its printed properly but I guess I could have helped myself out and printed the designs to scale first rather than just judging on screen. (mental note to self)

Im really pleased with the colours and how they have printed especially considering my very intricate and small scale designs. I also got a set of standardised swatches printed with the pantone names next to them so that I have a reference for the future of how colours print on the material. See, sometimes I can think one step ahead!

Anyway, so far, Im really pleased with Spoonflower and cant wait to get some more designs printed.

This week, I have...

So Im very sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple of weeks. It's been hectic!

My boyfriend and I have just bought our first home together so you can expect to see lots of house-related posts in the future. Im excited to start decorating (the house needs it!) so I've been looking at lots of gorgeous websites for home and interiors ideas and I payed IKEA a visit on the weekend to get some housey bits and bobs.

Exciting stuff! I hope to post lots more on the blog but its difficult at the moment as we have no internet so im having to catch up with things whenever i find myself near a computer.

Baby Stuff

A friend of mine is having a baby very soon. Her and her husband know what sex it is but have refused to tell anyone else throughout the whole pregnancy! This left me in a bit of a dilema when the time came to start buying pretty little things for the bundle of joy. I found it hard to choose things that were unisex but I thought I'd share with you what I did buy because they are so cuteeeeee!

I love the little bug patterns on this babygrow. Lots of the clothes had such cute surface patterns on them, it was hard to choose.

Classic 'Winnie the Pooh.' Awwwww!

Here's where I went a little bit girly. These cat booties are lovely but they have got pink beading round the side. Ooops, but I couldnt resist. Fingers crossed for a girl!

I hope my friend likes these baby goodies and I can't wait to see the little munchkin wearing them!

Hello. A few days ago, it was my birthday and I was lucky enough to receive lots of cards from friends and family. Here are my three favourites!

In the 'Treasures' series from Paperlink, this lovely handrawn swirly text with floral detail. I love the sparkle of the foil embossed sequins which are becoming much more popular as an alternative to real sequins.

I also received this lush card by Urban Graphic, printed on super smooth matt card. It has a real Scandinavian feel to the image and even the back of the card has a lovely branded illustration on it.

I am a big fan of Pango Productions cards! This was a really cool one I got from my lovely boyfriend. The little 3D cupcake is a magnet that you can put on your fridge after. I really want to collect them. So cute!

DIY Crafty Project

Hey. Check out this super cool website I have just come across through Pinterest.

It's 'The Inadvertent Farmer,' a wonderful blog by a very clever lady. I especially like the DIY section with lots of creative projects. Here is a fab idea for re-vamping up some old furniture. Using simple foamy shapes for kids craft, glued onto the chair, then primed and painted over. So simple but it looks lovely!

I cant wait until I have some more time on my hands to create some cool items like this for my home!

Here is a really cool and unusual advert for the Olympics and McDonalds in a Rob Ryan kind of style text layout. I really like it and the use of the photographic grass behind the illustrations works really well and links in with the Olympic sport theme.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been working on some really cool patterns that im quite excited about. I've also been building up lots of pattern reference in a massive ringbinder folder that I can pull inspiration from when I need to. Maybe Il post some of my cool finds on here later in the week.

Gorgeous Damasks

Hello.

I've been looking at lots of lovely damask patterns on the Graham and Brown website lately. There are so many gorgeous prints available. Here's a few of my favourites.

It really got me itching to create my own... so with the bank holiday weekend being a rainy washout, I was able to design this little pattern. Hope you like it.

Im excited to get started with Spoonflower and maybe create a little range of funky fabrics.

I like the idea of doing some more damask patterns using animals or other objects rather than the typical foliage and leafy designs that you often see. We'll see how it goes.

Welcome to the first blog post from PatternHill Studio. I hope to post lots of cool stuff on here! I will be able to post some photos, my recent projects and sources of inspiration that I find online.
